Saint Boniface is a Roman Catholic Church in the heart of downtown Louisville and has been ministering to the local community since 1836. We are a parish formed by the Word of God, the Sacraments, and the Tradition of the Catholic Church. We strive to be a catalyst for positive change in our neighborhood. We put the faith we have received into action through a variety of social outreach programs, namely: Saint John's Center for Homeless Men, Central Louisville Community Ministries, and by assisting Nativity Academy in their mission to educate at-risk youth. In these efforts we strive to be a refuge for those in need and offer hope to our local community.

St. Boniface faces future as Archdiocese considers closure

Picture
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A historic Louisville church is fighting to keep its doors open as the Archdiocese of Louisville considers a plan that could close more than 10 churches and merge several others.
St. Boniface Catholic Church, located in Louisville's NuLu neighborhood, is among the parishes identified in the draft plan.
Inside the nearly 200-year-old church, photographs, blueprints and drawings line the walls, documenting generations of parishioners and the changes the church has survived.
For Bill Lincoln, an organist at St. Boniface, that history is worth preserving.
“If you don't know where you come from, you don't have any idea of where you're going.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - There is a sign on the steeple at St. Boniface Catholic Church, telling visitors to join them for weekly Mass. It was put up about a year ago as a simple way to catch a passerby’s eye, and it is not easy to miss.
But it points to a much bigger problem that this church is facing, which threatens to close its doors for good.
A 2025 Pew Research Study found that of the 20% of U.S. adults who are Catholic, less than one-third attend Mass on a weekly basis.
That number comes amid a scarcity of active priests.
