Community Outreach
Saint Boniface Church strives to be a catalyst for positive change in our neighborhood. We put our faith into action through a variety of social outreach programs, namely: Saint John's Center for Homeless Men, Central Louisville Community Ministries (CLCM), and by assisting Nativity Academy in their mission to educate at-risk youth. We are also in close proximity to Wayside Christian Mission, where many of our parishioners volunteer, although we do not work directly with this organization. Many individuals travel between Saint John's Center and Wayside Christian Mission several times a day. Saint Boniface tries to be a Catholic witness to those in need near our property and in our community.
Nativity Academy at Saint Boniface
Nativity Academy transforms the lives of students who have a commitment to achievement and whose families demonstrate financial need. Founded in August 2003 by Fr. Tim Hogan, former pastor of St. Boniface parish in Louisville, Kentucky and by Fr. William Fichteman, former pastor of the Cathedral of the Assumption, and administered by Sr. Paula Kleine-Kracht OSU, Nativity Academy at St. Boniface was established as an independent private middle school in the Catholic tradition to educate urban youth. Nativity Academy seeks to impart to its students the highest spiritual ideals, moral values, knowledge, learning skills, discipline, character formation and personal care. Because the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville and the Xaverian Brothers sponsor it, Nativity Academy teaches formal religion classes within the faith-based tradition. All students participate in ecumenical and Catholic prayer services, but are not required to be, or become Catholic. St. John Center for Homeless Men
The mission of the St. John Center for Homeless Men is to help homeless men address barriers to self-sufficiency and housing so that they may leave homelessness for good. By providing shelter, social services, supportive housing, and serving as a hub with partner agencies, St. John Center is where homeless men “seek help, find hope, and move home.”
The history of the center started in 1986 when Saint John's began providing day services for homeless men in the Louisville area. The Catholic Church that the center took ownership of was built in the 1850’s as a safe haven for immigrants following Bloody Monday, and the agency still serves as a sanctuary today for those who often have no place else to go.
