Church Renovation
St. Boniface began an interior renovation in January of 2010. The completion of the project is scheduled for June 2010 and includes
removing and replacing deteriorated plaster from the walls and ceiling of the church, painting, and applying gold leaf to the capitals,
removing and replacing some light fixtures and cleaning of the statues. The estimated cost of this renovation is $400,000.00 and is
being done by BJB Restoration of Louisville.
During the renovation, several oil canvasses were discovered that date back to 1912.
In 1969, when the church was being painted, the priest in charge of Worship and Environment for the Archdiocese ordered that they
be painted over. They were considered ‘distracting elements’. All the works are oil on canvas. On some you can see the pencil lines
where the artist first drew the outline and then painted it. All that remain are two sections of hovering angels, several angel heads,
and most of the Last Supper (although it is in many pieces). Perhaps in the future we will have them cleaned and permanently mounted
to be displayed in the church.
